Single breasted paletot, front view

SUM's reproduction of the mid 19th century commercially available paletot is a high quality, authentically made paletot that features hand sewn button holes, 1 functioning exterior pockets.  Our reproductions are lined with brown 100% polished cotton.  Paletots of this pattern can be seen in nearly every photograph from the mid 19th century that features men at work or at play.  We are convinced that these paletots can't be beat them for the price and quality.  More expensive does not always mean better and more authentic!    Improve  your impression without breaking the bank!

If your size and color/fabric combination is not available at the time of order, a wait of 4-6 weeks may be necessary.

Sizing info: this garment is sized similar to modern sport or suit coats, so choose your chest size and keep in mind if you are going to be wearing a vest under the coat.  Also take into account if you have an unusually long or short sleeve length, let us know that information in the customer comments.

    Single breasted Paletot

I ordered the single breasted paletot in dark blue wool, with intention of making a Federal officer coat out of it. It took a little longer than expected to arrive, but was well worth the wait. Material and construction is incredible. Fit is perfect. I will probably buy another to use as a civilian coat. Highly recommend.

SUM was very understanding and quick to get this completed for me. I ordered mine in the dark brown jean wool with brass coin buttons. This coat is very similar to the original coat that was worn by Burton Marchbanks of the 30th Texas Cavalry. It not only works for a civilian impression, but also for a CS commutation homespun look. My only gripe is that the inside lining of the tail was cut shorter than the jean wool and so this caused a pucker in the jean wool on the tail of the outside of the coat. This was nothing a alteration cant fix. Wonderful product.

This was good value and fits well. I did go a size larger. Probably not necessary, i was carrying some extra weight the the time.

I received my paletot today and was extremely happy with the workmanship and fit. This will greatly add to my impression as a Historical Interpreter. I've ordered a SUM civilian vest as well to complete the outfit! Christmas in February!!!

I have never been disappointed by anything I have ordered from Chris and this paletot was definitely not an exception. Very well made, great fit, and it looks fantastic. My early war impression just got a huge boost! I cannot recommend enough.

Simply stated, amazing workmanship and attention to detail. I recommend this coat to anyone who wants to portray the Old West from 1870 to 1880..
