A small 15.5 x 15 inch 100% cotton Civil War reproduction handkerchief based on one carried by John W. Ettinger at Cedar Creek.
A Civil War reproduction handkerchief based on the original carried by Private John W. Ettinger of Company G, 87th Pennsylvania Infantry.
On October 19, 1864, Ettinger fought in the Battle of Cedar Creek in Virginia’s Shenandoah Valley. He was severely wounded in the face and eye area and was blinded for the rest of his life. His family preserved the items he had with him that day, including the original handkerchief reproduced here.
Made from 100% cotton and measuring 15.5 x 15 inches, this smaller handkerchief is a powerful example of a personal item connected to a documented Civil War soldier and a specific battle.
