Any great impression focuses on clothing and items that look and are constructed like the originals....and while we want to confirm to the "norm" of the period, there are certain norms that show attention to detail and individuality. This look brings you closer to the individual of the mid-late 19th century that you are wanting to represent. Wool flannel shirts were extremely common in the mid-late 19th century, much more common than is represented among the living history community. I have read one example of a Union surgeon requesting a wool shirt from his family at home...and that request was made during the summer in Mississippi. Wool shirts were durable and kept their insulation qualities even when wet - unlike cotton that would cause the wearer to get a chill even after a summer rain shower.
We are pleased to be able to offer wool flannel shirts trimmed in WOOL tape, not cotton, but actual woven wool tape. These shirts are made consistent with mid-19th century clothing standards and include machine sewn seams and hand sewn buttonholes. Each shirt features original white glass buttons and is made from custom woven wool flannel with a distinct weave pattern and a very soft feel for comfort and durability.
Currently available in blue, gray, red, and tan flannel with your choice of white, red or black wool trim.
