Rubberized Rain Cape

The original item that inspired this cape is a rubberized rain cape identified to Lt. Col. James Deems of the 1st Maryland Cavalry (US).  During Deems' tenure with the regiment, they were heavily engaged and part of the Union victories against Stuart's cavalry at Brandy Station and Gettysburg. The original was part of a recent Civil War collection auction.  Our cape is made of rubberized cotton cloth and is lined with brown and natural checked cotton.  The exterior features to buttoned flaps where the wearer's arms can pass through cape and be able to hold reins, etc.  The button holes are hand finished and the buttons are "rivet" style metal buttons like seen on some original rubberized clothing.  This cape is excellent for cavalry or anyone who needs to be protected from the elements while utilizing their arms.  We have also made available a version where the flaps are entrance points to interior pockets, thus allowing the wearer some storage in their rain garment.  Please indicate when ordering which version you prefer.

As with our raincoats, this will be stamped with the Standard Rubber Company stamp.

NOTE:  This garment is a cape, therefore, chest sizing does not hold as much value as a fitted garment.  I am a 46 chest and the size 40 fits me comfortably and allows plenty of mobility, so please keep this in mind when ordering.

If your size is not in stock at time of order, there will be a 4-6 week wait for completion.  If you must have the cape for an upcoming event, please email me before ordering or be prepared to wait possibly 4-6 weeks.

    Rain Cape

This cape is awesome. I purchased it to do a Wide Awakes impression but ended up using it for what it was intended for, keeping me dry in the rain. And it did just that.

Nice Rain Cape but there were no stamped Standard Rubber Company stamps as advertised - Sorry Evan, that was an oversight of ours.

    A handy and versatile cape!

Posted by Franklin Van Valkenburg on 10th Dec 2019

This cape has come in handy in both wet and cold conditions, proving its worth in a number of ways that makes it a neat piece to have on hand for a number of impressions and events throughout the year. While a bit fancier than a painted or gum blanket worn as a poncho, it's perfect for officer and civilian impressions!

    Wauhatchie tested

While my pards struggled to keep gum blankets on their shoulders, and eventually ended up soaked anyway when the gum soaked through, I was at ease, dry and comfortable under my rain cape. Totally worth the investment!!

    Cape

This cape fits well over a tee shirt, shirt and shell jacket. I bought a size 48 and I wear a size 52 coat. The look is excellent. Haven't worn it in the rain yet. I'll come back and give y'all a heads up then.
