We did a great deal of research from period photographs, trying to reproduce a cap that has been rarely, if ever, reproduced. There are several reproductions on the market of the more "flop" mechanic style caps, but not many have been done, that we could find, of this very short visor style of tight fitting cap. Our reproduction is being offered in navy blue wool or jean cloth wool/cotton, with a leather visor and cotton lining and leather sweatband. There is nothing fancy about these caps, they were a utilitarian type of head wear, but can be seen in numerous pictures from the mid 19th century.
