Our 18th Century Buckle Shoes are made for Colonial and Revolutionary War reenactment, living history, historical interpretation, and anyone looking for traditionally styled 18th-century men's footwear. With their low-cut leather design, wide latchets, and separate shoe buckles, they provide the unmistakable appearance of period footwear worn during the 1700s.

These historical reproduction shoes are made from top-grain leather with a double-thickness sole and sewn construction. Iron heel nails provide additional durability, while the leather lining creates a comfortable interior. The 1½-inch-wide latchets are designed to accept 18th-century shoe buckles, allowing you to customize the appearance of your shoes with the buckle style you prefer.

Designed in the United States and made for South Union Mills by an experienced historical shoemaker in India, these shoes combine period-inspired construction with the durability needed for living history events and extended wear.

Please note: These shoes run large. We recommend ordering one or two sizes smaller than your normal shoe size and considering the thickness of the stockings you will wear with them.

    Buckle shoes

Excellently made, appear to be period correct with the correct length tongues. When the website says they run large, trust them, they definitely do.

    Fit greats

Was worried about the fitment since I’m between sizing in shoes with 10&1/2 - 11, went with 11s and fit great. Very pleased with my purchase along with everything else I have ordered from them. Took a bit longer than I had hoped for but the quality is better than the faster sites I’ve used in the past.

These shoes are fantastic. I wear a 9.5wide. I need a very wide toe box. I ordered a size 9. The fit is absolutely perfect. If you need wide shoes these are the ones you are looking for.

    Great shoes

I was looking for "straight Lasted", rugged, comfortable, 18th Century Shoes. Although these are not 'technically' straight soled shoes, the curve is slight and these kids are comfortable. They are strong and rugged, have held up very well, and are "aging" very nicely. The only negative that I have with them, is that in heavy use they stain the foot of my socks brownish red, but I have seen accounts of originals doing the same thing, so I'm fine with it. I strongly recommend rthes as your go-to shoes./

I really like the look and comfort of these shoes. If you have buckle from another provider you may need to trim the latchets.

    18th Century Buckle Shoes

As it says in the description, order a size or two down. I ordered one size down, and I could've went down another whole size. But after a few adjustments with my buckles and wearing thicker stockings, these are perfect. I love the feel and the quality is great.

    Very nice!

This is the second pair of buckle shoes I’ve got from South Union. These are a step above the initial run, which had thinner leather and were very wide in the toe. Better quality leather, better finish, more appropriate sizing of the latchets, and better fit. I typically wear US9, and an 8 fits perfectly over woolen stockings, so definitely go a size down. I did a busy work day in them and my feet don’t hurt! That’s the best praise I can give.
