These socks are faithfully reproduced from instructions for an early 19th century socks, before 1820. These socks would be excellent for wearing with gaitered trousers or with close fitting overalls. Currently available in cadet gray 2 ply wool and natural white 2 ply wool.
The original instructions were contained in The Knitting Teacher’s Assistant, first published in 1817 in London. The sock “formula” in these instructions was also copied by other knitting manuals of the time, including the Ladies’ Knitting and Netting Book published in 1840.
